Hope Operas, DC’s own “cliffhangers for charity” theater program will return to the Comedy Spot at the Ballston Mall 4238 Wilson Blvd., Arlington, for the 2011 season at 8:00 PM on Monday, September 12 and will run through October 10, 2011. Each Monday night for five weeks, one 15-minute act, or “episode,” from each production will be performed. At the end of the evening, audience members vote for their favorite episode and the charity associated with the respective serial goes home with the bulk of the evening’s ticket sales. The remaining proceeds are distributed among the other charities according to popularity. Tickets ($12 per show or all five shows for $50) are CASH ONLY and available for purchase at the Comedy Spot box office starting at 7:00 PM the night of each Hope Operas performance.

“R.U.X. (Rockwell’s Universal seXbots)” is written by Maurice Martin and directed by Sun King Davis. Businessman Louis Rockwell Jr. dreams of building the sexiest sex robot ever! But he faces many obstacles, including a repressed chief programmer, a conservative senator opposed to robot sex, and the android double of his dead father. What’s an unscrupulous entrepreneur to do?  “R.U.X.” benefits HIPS (Helping Individual Prostitutes Survive) who use a harm reduction model to address the impact HIV/AIDS, STDs, drug use, discrimination and poverty have on individuals engaged in sex work in the DC Metropolitan area.

Hope Operas runs Monday nights, September 12 through October 10, 2011.
