Primary
Responsibilities:
- Develop & implement a
workplan for
this internship.
- Organize once monthly
events to: 1) raise
funds for HIPS services, 2) educate the wider community on issues
affecting HIPS clients, 3) increase visibility of HIPS, and 4) convene
HIPS clients, staff, volunteers, supporters, allies and the wider
community in a fun, positive environment.
- Events may include: happy
hours, speakers
forums, open mike nights, pageants, auctions, outings, performances
- Develop and execute
promotional campaigns
for these events.
- Report planning and
progress to HIPS
Executive Director on a weekly basis.

Qualifications:
- An enthusiastic educator
with the desire to
organize events to provide sex workers with the tools they want and
need (and with the humility to ask what those things are).
- Familiarity with and
desire to learn more
about the challenges facing sex workers (trans-phobia, sexism,
heterosexism, homophobia, sexual violence, hate crimes, trauma,
HIV/STI’s, economic and educational inequalities, substance
dependence)
- Dependable, creative

to facilitate productive, educational conversations with both clients
and community members.

non-confrontational dialogue regarding harm/risk reduction and sex work.

non-judgmental
Preferred

- Experience with, knowledge
of, or
connections in the DC judicial system.
- Willingness to travel
with clients to

DC Public
Defender to connect potential clients to HIPS services.
- Engage with individuals awaiting arraignment
on solicitation charges offering non-judgmental support and full
knowledge of harm reduction techniques and HIPS services.
- Provide referrals for
basic needs.
- Engage service providers
(such as Our Place
DC) who work with formerly incarcerated individuals.
- Option to engage in field work with these
agencies during trips to prisons located outside of DC.
- Report activities and

for monthly
check-ins regarding the status of the DCBDS program, refilling
displays, collecting reports.
- Promote HIPS services
while at these
agencies.
- Post DCBDS in strategic
locations for
dissemination to sex workers.
- Report to Outreach

as well as HIPS clients, staff, volunteers and donors to determine
desired content of HIPS web page and design a multimedia site to meet
these needs.

files, “success stories” and merchandise store.
- Using the information
gathered, increase
HIPS on-line presence and reach out to new clients, volunteers, donors
and supporters.
- Submit weekly progress

for redesign & maintenance of HIPS website, and design and plan
for HIPS myspace and other social networking sites.
